Requirements to Work in the United States as a Nurse

 
Foreign nurses seeking employment as nurses in the United States must meet four major requirements, to work in most States:

1. Earn the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFSN)    certification which includes:
    
       a. Credential review by a licensed Credential Evaluation Service;
       b. Qualifying Examination of Nursing Knowledge;
       c.  English Language Proficiency Examinations.

2. Successfully take the NCLEX-RN examinations.  Upon successfully    earning the CGFSN certification, and depending on the State, the    foreign nurse will then be required to demonstrate eligibility for the
   NCLEX-RN.  For that, the foreign nurse must present:

       a. The CGFSN certification;
       b. Copies of their foreign academic credentials;
       c. Copies of the foreign educational evaluation report;
          and Proof of proficiency in English Language

3. Complete the VisaScreen™:  Visa Credentials Assessment is mandatory    for US immigration (also processed through the CDFSN).

4. Secure the immigration sponsorship under the I-140 EB3    (Employment Based Petition) as an immigrant or permanent resident
